Great stories are found in the dark. No education is also one sort of darkness. In today's world, less education is also equal to no education. Without education, a person might travel in different directions, which may lead to multiple trials and errors. That's why it is said, "direction decides the destination." But in the case of Ramesh Mane, his destination was decided by the direction in his life.
The land of Maratha warriors, Maharashtra, has given birth to many great personalities throughout the ages. The list is endless. Sons of this soil have proven their talents in various fields like arts, culture, sports, music, etc.
This is the story of the boy named Ramesh Mane, born in a poor farmer family to Shri.Bhimrao Maroti Mane and Shrimati.Kevalbai Bhimrao Mane from the village of Wadgaon (Ekky) in Chakur tehsil, district Latur, state Maharashtra, India. Poverty was at its peak in his family. Upon his birth, his father was forced to go to Mumbai in search of a job for the livelihood of his family, but unfortunately, he didn't succeed and came back to his native place and started doing the job he was doing previously. Along with the couple, they had four children.
Days were hard, but his parents focused on their education. Up to the 7th standard, Ramesh used to study and help the family, and also worked in the farms of others as labor.
As Ramesh and his brother were good in studies, the family decided to send them to a tehsil place along with two friends. Everyone was confident that Ramesh and the others would receive good remarks, and Ramesh was also confident about his command over English and math. But life always gives you surprises – Ramesh failed in the 10th standard, even in English and math. The reasons behind this gave birth to the thought of rechecking and going through the proper checklist before giving final answers. After failing, he tried in October and March, but did not succeed. Finally, he came back to his native place where he started working in the farms of others, plowing like a daily laborer for wages.
Poverty has some hidden gifts, and family bonding is one of them, where everybody cares for each other, and the same was with him. His hard-earned money was saved and used to gift his sister with some silver ornaments worth Rs. 300. The amount was less, but it was more valuable than a million dollars.
Every day, he used to work on farms, and after some time, he started working with a sand and tractor contractor as a laborer. One day, his mother saw him doing manual labor and got upset, asking him to find other work. She asked her brother to find or search for a job for Ramesh, and finally, she succeeded. Her brother's friend offered him a job as a tractor mechanic in his workshop, but with no salary in his early days. During this period, he learned many technical things about tractors, as Mr. Swami was well trained and was a master of Massey Ferguson tractors. For years, Ramesh worked under him, and his last salary was Rs. 350 per month.
One fine day, Ramesh decided to start his own garage in Ahmedpur with the help of his father's savings of Rs. 5000 and a Rs. 20,000 loan at 5% interest per month. He started the workshop. Nowadays, banks are liberal, but in some parts of the nation, moneylenders are the only source of capital. The garage got good business, and slowly he started earning Rs. 5000 to Rs. 6000 per month. Another surprise was waiting in his life due to some reasons – the business faced losses, and he was forced to shut down and return to his native place. But the good thing was that his family was with him like a mountain. His family members decided that he and his brothers should go to big cities like Mumbai and Pune and hunt for jobs, as there was a huge burden of loans on them.
In Pune, he had to wait for five months to get the desired job as a tractor mechanic. Finally, he got the job at a dealer of Massey Ferguson, name of Venktesh Tractors Pune where his salary was Rs. 2800 per month. For two years, he continued to do the job, and in the meantime, Mr. Praveen Muradi (Aria Manager, Customers Support, TAFE LTD) suggested he work in the stockyard of the company, where his mentor was Mr. Laxman Gawali.
On weekdays, he used to do repair jobs for private tractor owners. One fine day, Mr. Gawali suggested that he purchase his own truck and start his own business. Business means capital, and capital to purchase trucks is not a piece of cake, but God always helps in some form. His client, Mr. Uttamrao Zende from Saswad, helped him with Rs. 50,000, just like he had helped him during the purchase of his first open plot 2000 square feet in Pune. It was 2012 when Ramesh purchased a truck. Along with his brothers, he started the business, but he still worked in the company. Slowly, as the business established, he decided to quit, as time demanded more responsibilities in daily operations. Business means handling many jobs at a single time, so sometimes not, but many times he worked as a driver, cleaner, loader, etc., without any shyness.
His progress was slow but constant, and from owning one truck, he became the owner of a fleet of trucks. He also gained the trust of his corporate clients, and now Mayur Transport is one of the prominent business houses serving many reputed companies like Massey Ferguson, Eicher Tractors, Kubota, New Holland, , Shaktiman Sugar cane harwaster, etc.
Now, Mayur Transport and Ramesh Mane are both growing and achieving new milestones by exploring new opportunities in various sectors. After witnessing the journey of Ramesh Mane, the managing director of Mayur Transport, it is obvious to say that the destination decides the direction, which creates a sense of humor by educating you to be aware and understand the opportunities surrounding you, even when you are surrounded by challenging situations.
